More Than a Pool: A Legacy of Laughter, Trust, and Kvutza

As we begin the exciting process of upgrading our pool, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the countless memories made in and around it. From cannonballs to quiet swims at sunset, our pool has always been more than a body of water — it’s been a gathering place, a training ground, and a canvas for unforgettable moments of joy, connection, and community.

Throughout the next few weeks, we will be sharing memories contributed by community members like you. We hope they bring a smile, spark nostalgia, and maybe even inspire you to share your own. (Email iky@campshomria.org with your story today!)

Our first story comes from Jordana Jacobs, who remembers how the pool transformed into a mini lake in the days leading up to the legendary canoe trips down the river. Before the kvutzot ventured out into the wild, they would gather at the pool, not just to splash around, but to prepare. Under the summer sun, with life jackets strapped tight and paddles in hand, they learned the rhythm of working together - how to steer, how to balance, and most importantly, how to laugh when things didn’t go quite as planned.

Jordana recalls the vivid memory of learning how to react when the canoe would tip over. Suddenly submerged, the chanichim would gasp, giggle, and scramble back into the boats, learning through lived experience how to handle the unexpected. It wasn’t just about safety; it was about trust, resilience, and the thrill of overcoming a challenge with your kvutza by your side.

That patch of blue in the middle of camp was more than a pool - it was where courage was built, friendships were forged, and the journey began, one paddle stroke at a time.

As we dive into this next chapter, we're not just rebuilding a pool - we're honoring a legacy. Every splash, stroke, and shared moment has shaped our community, and we can’t wait to make even more memories together in the seasons to come.
