Year Round Hanhaga
Mazkirim & Rosh Ken
Mazkirim: Omer and Yuval Nathaniel
Who are these two dashing young lads pictured to the side you may be asking? These two guys are Yuval and Omer Nathaniel, (brothers not spouses). They first came to Camp Shomria in 2016 and have come back every summer since. Yuval has been on the Hanhaga (Leadership Team) and Omer has been Rosh Ken (Head of Hashomer activities in New Jersey). After being Roshei Tarbut (Heads of Activity Planning) together this past summer, they’re stepping into the role of Mazkirim. Although they will always stay Jersey boys at heart, they have moved to Brooklyn since becoming maskirim and are working to create a Hashomer Bayit. They have big dreams to help make mosh the best it can be and to bring the magic of the summer into the year-round events. Yuval and Omer hold the ideals of youth empowerment and socialism very close to heart.
Omer loves playing guitar and writing songs.
Yuval has completed more than 1400 expert-level Sudoku puzzles
Rosh Ken: Ahuva Mahalel
Hi parents, chanichim, and friends! My name is Ahuva Mahalel, and I’m very excited to be Rosh Ken for the 2023-2024 school year. I am currently a Senior in High School (hard to believe), and approaching my second year of Hadracha. I’ve lived in Morningside Heights/Upper West Side for the past 16 years, and I attend school in the Lower East Side; fair to say I’m a well-rounded New Yorker. As a chanicha, I attended various New York kenim, weekend camps, and seminars, all of which were memorable and formative experiences for me. I’m looking forward to running Peulot for Chalutzim and Tzofim, and hope to recreate meaningful, educational, and fun experiences throughout the school year. We have many fun events planned, including picnics, parties, ice skating, apple picking, and community outreach events.
Looking forward to meeting you all!
Roni first came to Camp Shomria in 2009 when she was just 10 years old. Since then, she has grown up every summer and throughout the year in this movement that holds a special place in her heart. Roni has fulfilled roles like Rosh Ken, madricha, and Rosh Chinuch. She spent the last 5 years living in Israel in various kibbutzim in the north and volunteering in the IDF as a Social Work Officer, where she got to meet and help different populations within Israel. She is passionate about returning to Camp in this special role for her to make a difference in a new way she hasn’t yet experienced. It warms my heart to return to the place that shaped me to be who I am today. I am excited to work with the hadracha, campers, parents, and our whole beautiful moshava community!
Eden arrived in the United States in May 2023. She is originally from Kibbutz Hephzibah in Northern Israel - located near Mount Gilboa. With a background in community social education, she has spent an impressive 11 years working with various youth groups, both within her Kibbutz and across Israel. Eden loves animals and nature, and believes that the connection to nature and animals provides many educational opportunities. Eden’s enthusiasm for her role as a youth educator shines through in everything she does, as she considers education to be a mission and a beacon of hope for the future!
Adam first came to Camp Shomria as a camper in 2006, and went on to work as a counselor in the youth movement through 2014. Having since worked in other educational settings, human rights, and community mental health, Adam is excited to return to the place that raised him. He is passionate about youth empowerment, community building, and ecology.
Randy is excited to be part of the Hashomer Hatzair/Shomria team. He has almost 30 years of development experience, which he credits to his love of camping. He recognizes the importance camp has in building very capable individuals. His wife and children also love camp.
