Light in the Darkness: Join us in sparking the light for a better tomorrow.

"There will be no victory of light over darkness until we realize that instead of fighting darkness, we must increase the light."
– Aharon David Gordon

As days grow shorter, many cultures and religions, including Judaism, hold ceremonies centered on light. While we cannot control the darkness, we choose to illuminate it, reminding ourselves of our power to push back even the deepest shadows. At Hashomer Hatzair, our work centers on equipping our chanichim/ot with the tools, fuel, and desire to ignite a powerful, radiant light that shines far beyond themselves.

Recent events, including the October 7th atrocities, the ongoing war, and divisive voices rising both in Israel and the U.S., have brought darkness to many lives. Yet, it is with pride and gratitude that I can share how, with your support, we have brought light to an ever-growing number of people.

In 2024, we expanded participation in our year-round programs by 75%, launching new kenim in Corning, NY, and Boston, with plans for New Jersey soon. We welcomed over 200 campers to Camp Shomria, including youth from kibbutzim affected by October 7th and Arab Israeli youth from our sister movement Ajyal. We reopened “The Bayit” in NYC for seminars, kenim, and Shabbat dinners. We also introduced a pluralistic “Bnei Mitzvah” program for sixth graders, fostering identity and connection within our movement.

Our outreach grew to alumni, parents, and supporters, highlighted by:

  • A hybrid event with Anat Marle and her daughter Ori, sharing their story of restoring hope at Kibbutz Nirim.
  • A co-hosted event with “The Parents Circle,” featuring speakers from Kibbutz Be'eri and Bait Lehem sharing their stories of loss and resilience.
  • Joining New York rallies for hostage release and a ceasefire, where our Mazkirim spoke.
  • An October 7th memorial event with Hashomer Hatzair kibbutzim representatives and alumni.

As a Hashomer Hatzair Boger who recently moved from Israel, I am repeatedly moved by the deep emotional connection Hashomer Hatzair Bogrim in the U.S. have to our movement and the profound impact of our activities on their lives.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your support of Hashomer Hatzair and hope you’ll consider renewing or even increasing your year-end donation, allowing us to spread Hashomer Hatzair's light to more lives.

Chazak Ve’Ematz,

Lior Reshef Deri
