Shomeric Beacon of Light: Lisa Fliegel
Lisa Fliegel is a Boston-based trauma therapist and community advocate with over 30 years of experience supporting survivors of conflict and tragedy. Her extraordinary career spans diverse contexts: providing critical assistance to Israelis and Palestinians, working with families impacted by urban violence in the United States, helping survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing and more.
A lifelong peace activist, Lisa is deeply committed to social justice, youth empowerment, and healing. Her work reflects a profound dedication to building bridges across communities and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.
In the aftermath of the tragic events of October 7th, Lisa took immediate action. Through her connections with Hashomer Hatzair Israel and Merkazim L’Tzedek Chevrati, she quickly arrived at an evacuee site in Eilat, established by Hashomer Hatzair. There, she provided vital support to evacuees from the Gaza Envelope, including residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz and Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak. Her work helped address the emotional needs of families devastated by the attacks, demonstrating the power of her expertise and her unwavering commitment to collective healing.
Although Lisa wasn’t a member of Hashomer Hatzair in her youth, the movement’s values resonate deeply in her life’s work. Her passion for Hashomer Hatzair and Merkazim L’Tzedek Chevrati is evident in her activism—fighting for a more just world and empowering the next generation of Jewish leaders. Lisa Fliegel’s story is a testament to the enduring impact of dedication, compassion, and a commitment to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world).
